Shell integration not active

Howdy, very excited to see this project. I tried installing on Windows 10 and I can't get the shell extension to actually activate. USD is working fine. I have all the PATHs and such set correctly. After many reboots and many reinstalls it just won't work.

I find no sign of USD Shell Extension in the Windows Event Viewer. If I go to the default programs configuration page in Windows there is no option to add "Activision USD Shell Extension." Nor is that available through right click > open with. There are three applications in the install folder: UsdPreviewLocalServer, UsdPythonToolsLocalServer and UsdSdkToolsLocalServer. Associating with any one of those does nothing.

Any ideas what I can do to get up and running? Thanks!

Hi,

Try pulling down this batch file and placing it in the install folder.
https://github.com/Activision/USDShellExtension/blob/main/UsdShellExtension/register.bat

Run it under admin. The registration steps will do some validation. That validation may give you more info about what is failing.

Thanks for the reply. I ran the script and got the two messages below. Not sure why it complains about pyOpenGL because it is indeed installed:

PS C:\Windows\system32> pip install pyOpenGL
Requirement already satisfied: pyOpenGL in c:\python\python36\lib\site-packages (3.1.5)

Hey, it's working! I opened up the USD Extension .ini file and put PYTHONPATH=c:\python\python36\lib\site-packages. Ran the script again and now it's running perfectly. Thanks!

It either cannot find your python install or there is another python install that it has located.

Open the UsdShellExtension.ini (there should be a shortcut in your start menu) and the set the path to python explicitly.

(Saw your reply while writing this. I think adding the line below would work too.)
