Code of Conduct

1. Purpose

Cerritus Coders is a community of students that help each other, and to keep a safe and friendly environment, everyone must abide by our code of conduct. This will include the rules in detail, who you need to report to in the case that you notice someone breaking these rules. We invite all those who participate in Cerritus Coders to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone.

2. Pledge

  • We pledge to treat everyone with the same respect that we would like to recieve ourselves, and behave in a way that shows respect for ourselves and others.
  • We pledge to uphold our integrity and to respect everyones words and questions, and make choices for the community that makes it a better place than it was.
  • We pledge to keep the community a safe and friendly environment for everyone, and to always be welcoming to everyone.

3. Expected Behavior

The following behaviors are expected and requested of all community members:

  • If you're capable of helping someone, never hesitate to help them!
  • Always try to support others in the community.
  • Have respect for everyone's preferences in coding languages.
  • Always keep feedback on projects, as respectful as possible.
  • No encouragement of hate or harassment under any circumstance.
  • Criticise peoples ideas, not the people themselves.
  • Stay on topic, on community matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality in the community.
  • All exchanges must be open and honest.
  • Keep debates as tame as possible, avoid escalating them too far.
  • If you know anyone who could add value to the community, invite them!
  • You represent our community, so be a good role model!
  • Always respect others privacy.
  • Question others beliefs with respect.

4. Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:

  • Do not harass anyone, no matter what.
  • Do not impersonate people.
  • No derogatory speech, or anything similar.
  • Be civil.
  • No commercial solicitation.
  • Respect the privacy of all the members.
  • Inappropriate photography or recording.
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
  • Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.

5. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior from any community member, including sponsors and those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated.

If a member engages in harassing behaviour, Cerritus Coders reserves the right to take any action it deems necessary, including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from the community without warning.

6. Scope

We expect all community members (contributors, paid or otherwise; sponsors; and other guests) to abide by this Code of Conduct in all community venues--online and in-person--as well as in all one-on-one communications pertaining to community business.

This code of conduct and its related procedures also applies to unacceptable behavior occurring outside the scope of community activities when such behavior has the potential to adversely affect the safety and well-being of community members.

6. Reporting Guidelines

Please report to us if you are being harassed, see that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns. Along with that If you feel uncomfortable or think there may be a potential violation of the code of conduct, please report it immediately. We will never reveal reporters info and they have the right to remain anonymous. All reports will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.
