Hello, my name is Matthew Wilson, and I'm an IT professional with a strong focus on systems and a passion for server engineering, cybersecurity, and building systems that actually work when it matters.
My entry into IT came from diving headfirst into real-world environments, working on and troubleshooting issues in large-scale Windows systems. Since then, I’ve continued developing my skills both professionally and independently by building home lab environments that mirror real-world infrastructure.
My professional experience includes:
- Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy
- Windows environments and system troubleshooting
- Linux server deployments and administration
I’ve built complete environments from the ground up, including:
- Domain environments with authentication and policy management
- Reverse proxies (Nginx)
- VPN solutions (WireGuard)
- Secure remote access systems
I’m especially interested in how systems, networking, and security intersect, and how small misconfigurations can lead to larger issues.
What drives me is solving problems at a deeper level. I don’t just aim to fix issues—I focus on understanding why they happen, how to prevent them, and how to design systems that are reliable, secure, and scalable.
I’m currently working toward advancing into server engineering and security-focused roles, with a long-term goal of becoming a Security Architect. I prioritize:
- Least privilege
- Strong access control
- Accountability and system integrity
Outside of IT, I enjoy backpacking, cooking, and working on home technology projects. I’m also an Eagle Scout, which has shaped my leadership, accountability, and ability to stay calm under pressure—skills that directly translate into IT environments where things don’t always go as planned.
If you’d like to learn more about what I’m working on, feel free to check out my projects or connect with me on GitHub and LinkedIn.
