πŸ†• Refresh Token Implementation Plan - New Authentication Enhancement

A comprehensive plan has been created to implement refresh tokens, background token renewal, and silent renewal in the Divemap application.

Current Authentication Issues:

  • Users get logged out every 30 minutes
  • No warning before session expiration
  • Poor user experience for long browsing sessions
  • No automatic token renewal
  • Security risk of storing long-lived tokens

Proposed Solution:

  • Dual Token System: Short-lived access tokens (15-30 min) + long-lived refresh tokens (7-30 days)
  • Background Token Renewal: Automatic renewal before expiration
  • Silent Renewal: No user interruption during renewal
  • Enhanced Security: Token rotation, revocation support, audit logging

Implementation Phases:

  • Phase 1: Backend infrastructure (database, token service, API endpoints)
  • Phase 2: Frontend implementation (enhanced AuthContext, API interceptors)
  • Phase 3: Security enhancements (token rotation, rate limiting, audit logging)

πŸš€ Node.js 20 Upgrade & Frontend Improvements - Complete!

The project has been successfully upgraded from Node.js 18 to Node.js 20, bringing significant performance improvements, security updates, and modern JavaScript features.

Upgrade Benefits:

  • Performance: V8 11.0+ engine with 15-20% faster execution
  • Security: Extended LTS support until April 2026 (vs April 2025 for Node.js 18)
  • Memory: Better memory management and reduced footprint
  • Build Speed: Faster npm install and build times
  • Modern Features: Latest ES2022+ language features

Package Upgrades Completed:

The search algorithm has been significantly enhanced to address geographic field matching issues and improve code quality across all content types.

Problem Solved:

  • "anavys" search now properly finds "Anavissos Municipal Unit" city
  • Geographic queries work better with partial character matching
  • Code duplication eliminated through unified scoring functions

Key Improvements Implemented:
