Issue with checking out latest version

I am getting errors what I attempt to checkout the latest version 1.28.3

As per instruction in the readme.md I performt eh following in a clean directory:

git clone --recursive https://github.com/STMicroelectronics/STM32CubeF4.git

This clones the repo into the folder STM32CubeF4 which I cahgne to then issue the commend:
git checkout v1.28.3

I then receive the following git errors:
