Description
Using the SBOL visual glyphs provided on the release page (https://github.com/SynBioDex/SBOL-visual/releases) in a vector editor I noticed that the bounding boxes of the glyphs are all equal but do not match the actual glyph (see Figure; holds for PDF, SVG and PNG). Grey boxes indicate the actual bounding boxes.
Using the glyphs to create properly aligned SBOL visual graphs does not work when using the glyphs lower end (see lower part of the Figure), as the grids usually lock at the outer bounding boxes.
To overcome this, I suggest to match the bounding box the real dimensions of the glyph without any additional margins.
Another observation I made is with respect to the PNG versions of the Glyphs. They are of dimension 48x48 (again including the outer bounding box) only. Following Journal's recommendations for the resolution of pixel figures, colored versions should have at least 300 dpi and black and white ones 600 dpi. In the 300 dpi case, this leads to a single glyph being allowed to have a maximum size of 0.16x0.16 inch or equivalently 4x4 mm.
I suggest to increase the resolution of the PNG glyphs to the range of 120 to 240 pixels in a single dimension. The promoter glyph in 240 x 240 pixels has roughly 4 kB in size which is a factor of 8 by gaining a factor of 25 in resolution.
