@zeroshade I did a dry-run. (Although I need to double-check.)
The only braking change is
https://pkg.go.dev/github.com/apache/arrow/go/v17/arrow/avro#ArrowSchemaFromAvro
Because its argument points directly to
https://pkg.go.dev/github.com/hamba/avro/v2#Schema

We have two options, both adds
func ArrowSchemaFromAvroJSON(string) (*arrow.Schema, error)
People using hamba/avro can use ArrowSchemaFromAvroJSON(hambaAvroSchema.String()) instead of ArrowSchemaFromAvro(hambaAvroSchema)

A: remove ArrowSchemaFromAvro in a favor of ArrowSchemaFromAvroJSON
B: keep ArrowSchemaFromAvro for performance reasons, but treat it as unstable for the future (if another lib change comes)

There is an option C: leave the func there, for backward compatibility, keep the hamba/avro dependency for this single use, and internally call the ArrowSchemaFromAvroJSON(hambaAvroSchema.String()) func.

My personal preference would be option C simply because I've been working really hard to avoid having to do major version updates for arrow-go, so if there's a way we can avoid the breaking change that would be my preference. The Go compiler should be able to cut out the hamba dependency if you're not using the avro package and we can add a deprecated notice to the current function. Feel free to file a PR!
