Icon files for top sites and different devices.

Description of problem

DNN is limited to only the favicon.ico file you can currently set. There are many such as "Top Site Icon" for different browsers and devices.

Description of solution

I believe it would be great to have a recommended .png file that can possibly create all the different icon files and set them for browsers and devices to recognize. Use image manipulation to resize the files as needed for each different file type and include any html code to support the browsers recognizing those files only if they exist.

Using another open source library for image manipulation could run a badge resize asking a user to submit the 180x180 and then have the system downsize the files and create any reference links as needed to support devices.

Maybe a set of check boxes can be created on a panel that opens up to configure fav icon option settings. Cog icon next to the image where it is currently located in DNN and set which icons you wish to support if not all of them. A button that allows you to save the settings and create the new icons, with new names or overwriting existing.

Additional context

Top Sites Icon and Fav icon for browsers and device icon when they save a page to a device menu and bookmark toolbars IMO would be a great way to help with branding a site using DNN.

We've been discussing this idea at @EngageSoftware and definitely think it would make sense if DNN could support much of this. We typically use https://realfavicongenerator.net/ for generating all of the files but don't have a straightforward way of implementing them consistently.

@iJungleboy recently posted about using their RazorBlade tool to setup the correct icon set, too.

@thabaum the image handler has little to do with this, the main question is configuration, things like

• what image, where is it, and should it use multiple different images (like .ico for some, .png for others, .svg for others)
• what headers should be in the html file - there could be more than 20 with various specs
• which versions should be resized, which not

etc. I've spend ca. 3 days working on this - the condensed version is my blog post https://2sxc.org/en/blog/post/icons-and-favicons-done-right-in-dnn which explains our findings.

Since then we've implemented an API for this in RazorBlade to do what we think is best practice to solve all these problems. Maybe we can just include RazorBlade in DNN :) ?

Well, if it improves without making it a breaking change for upgrades and without depending on things we have no control over, I would say yes...

@valadas i guess the question is what would be accepted. Basically this would require Razor Blade to become part of DNN - which I think would be awesome, but maybe DNN would prefer to keep the amount of plugins installed by default as low as possible.
