[Enhancement] Allow user to upload custom book cover image

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

• I am often frustrated when a web novel has a low-quality cover, no cover at all, or a cover that doesn't match my personal library aesthetic. Currently, I have to use external tools like Calibre to manually swap the cover after the EPUB has already been generated.

Describe the solution you'd like

• I would like an "Upload Cover" button or area within the WebToEpub extension interface. This would allow users to select a local image file (JPG/PNG) from their computer to be used as the official book cover during the "Pack EPUB" process, overriding the default image found on the website.

Describe alternatives you've considered

• Post-processing: Using Calibre's metadata editor to "Polish" the book and replace the cover, which is time-consuming for large batches.
• URL Input: Providing a direct URL to a different image in the "Advanced Options," though a direct file upload would be much more user-friendly.
• Additional context
• This feature would be especially helpful for sites with broken image links or generic placeholder covers. It would streamline the creation of "bookshelf-ready" files directly from the browser.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your request, I do believe that this functionality already exists. The "Cover Image URL" input allows you to override the found cover image with an URL of your choosing; and this URL can point to a local resource:

This allows you to set effectively any image as the cover image before packing the EPUB. Is this a solution to your issue, or am I missing something? Anyway have a nice day ;)

Hi, I meant like uploading an image file like jpeg, png, webp, etc.
I mostly use this extension on wtr-lab.

Apologies, but I don't think I understand what you mean by "uploading an image file", could you clarify? I don't personally use wtr-lab, so I don't know if that is part of the explanation either.

But in my example above the image which the local URL points to gets copied/uploaded into the produced EPUB. Are you referring to a button which allows you to browse local files and select one to "upload"?

Ah that makes sense, and I just gotta say you just pulled a classic "Sorry, for my bad English", while writing basically perfect English xD I wouldn't have known you weren't native if you didn't mention it ;)

As for adding the button, I don't see any issues with doing so. It would be straight forward as most of the work is is aleady done. But I also don't want to waste my time implementing something which won't get merged, so I just wanna check with a maintainer.

@dteviot, you see any problems with this if I implement it? I'm thinking just a button next to the "Clear URL" or something, which just hooks into the existing URL text input?

Although changing the cover image is something that's easy to do with a tool like Calibre

@dteviot Completely agree. And even without that, as I showed above you can simply copy-paste a local file URL into the input and it works (on Windows at least, haven't tested Linux). But the request seemed simple enough, and if I'm not mistaken I believe it can be implemented without actually touching the "existing" logic.

I haven't actually looked at the existing implementation yet, but make a button and hidden file input which selects the file to use. And then instead of messing with any existing logic, simply make it's event handler set the value of the existing input and trigger a on no longer focused event on it to make the existing code update with the new value that was just inserted; just like it would if you manually changed the input value.

Thereby you get the new "feature", with minimal risk of breaking the existing stuff. However, it would add more code for a minimal QoL improvement. But as said above, it's your call ;)

My personal opinion is it's not worth doing. But if you want to do it, go ahead. Just put in in the Advanced Options, so that it's not there to confuse most users who will never use it.
