Hi Flatnotes community!
I’ve been a long-time user and huge fan of Flatnotes. Its simplicity and elegance are unmatched. However, I found myself wanting a few extra features for my workflow, so I’ve been working on Flatnotes-Enhanced—a fork that builds on the original with additional functionality.
Why a Fork?
Flatnotes-Enhanced is not meant to compete with or replace the original. Instead, it’s an exploration of what Flatnotes could be with a few extra bells and whistles. My goal is to add features that enhance usability while keeping the spirit of Flatnotes intact.
Note: The fork is not yet available on GitHub—I’m still in the development phase and gathering feedback before the official release.
What’s New?
Here are some of the key features I’ve added so far:
- 📁 Advanced folder management (nested folders, drag & drop, bulk operations)
- 🏷️ Enhanced tag system (nested tags, custom colors, visual chips)
- 👁️ Popup preview (click to preview notes without opening)
- 🎨 Visual customization (callout blocks, header colors, quote styling)
- 📝 Editor upgrades (custom highlights, search/replace, file attachments)
- 🗑️ Note management (soft delete, trash/archive system, templates)
Why I Need Your Feedback
Before I finalize and release the fork, I’d love to hear from the community:
- Would you use a fork with these features?
- What’s missing? Are there features you’d love to see?
- Is this something you’d consider switching to, or do you prefer the simplicity of the original?
How to Get Involved
- Check out the teaser and discussion: Flatnotes-Enhanced Discussion
- Share your thoughts: What do you like? What would you change?
- Spread the word: If you know others who might be interested, feel free to invite them to the discussion!
A Note of Gratitude
A huge thank you to @Dullage for creating Flatnotes. This fork wouldn’t exist without the original project, and I’m deeply grateful for the work that’s been put into it.
Looking forward to your feedback!
Let’s make Flatnotes even better—together. 🚀
