PlayStation Controller Icon detection doesn't work through Steam Input on Linux

It's fine if Steam Input is disabled and if then started from the start menu.

Closing this, as the Controller Icons option takes care of this already by allowing you to force icons for your controller rather than using Auto.

This issue could be solved if this sourceport is using...at least SDL 2.30 or above. Steam Input should at least handshake SDL_GetGamepadType (SDL3) / SDL_GameControllerGetType (SDL2). unfortunately: I cannot verify what version of SDL2 that UnleashedRecomp is using, as it does not provide an SDL2.dll file.

While you're likely to see it on commercial games using SDL 2.28+, it also works on sourceports such as Yamagi Quake II and Woof!, as both of them will actually play nicely with Steam Input and give them the correct button prompts on both Windows and Linux.

Hi again. After doing some bit of research by pure accident, I discover some quirks.

While I was testing Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition and swapped with the most up-to-date "SDL2.dll" file. when I was testing Steam Input by pure randomness, I found out that what once gives me Xbox prompts...now lives me DualSense prompts.

So, I went ahead and tested it with the other Nightdive-made Kex ports, and when swapping to a newer SDL2.dll file: Steam Input will respect the game's button prompt detection system.

I'm starting to believe this is because Steam Input is also looking at a SDL2.dll file inside the game's directory, but Steam doesn't look for a static library version of it. If my theory is true: this might explain why it doesn't work thru Steam Input.

So, what if UnleashedRecomp's game directory includes a `SDL2.dll" file and have it link it thru? But it's hard to tell if I don't know which version of SDL2 this recompilation project shipped with.

edit: took me a while, but turns out: it's using SDL 2.29.2 pre-release build. I think it needs a minor upgrade to the latest version whenever possible.

I managed to get it working. Turns out and unless I'm absolutely wrong: it's using SDL_GameControllerTypeForIndex(index) as opposed to return SDL_GameControllerGetType(controller).

I did a initial test in my end using Windows 11, and I believe it should work under my compiled build...but additional testings will be required.
