Use case

Option to disable Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO) to mitigate stuttering and improve frame pacing in specific titles. The option to disable this feature is also included in other popular optimization tools, such as the Chris Titus Tech Windows Utility and NVCleanstall. I like WinHance more and more because it makes a difference even on my high-end system (RTX 5090 + 9950X3D), so I think it would be valuable for low-spec PCs as well. Thx

I suggest testing this key without disabling MPO; it solved some of my stunting and flickering problems.

Both options have now been added to Winhance under Optimize > Gaming & Performance > Graphics:

1. Disable Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO) — This fully disables MPO by setting the OverlayTestMode registry value (for Windows 10/11 up to 24H2) and the newer DisableOverlays value (for Windows 11 25H2+), so it works across all Windows versions. This is the same fix recommended by NVIDIA.

2. Disable MPO Minimum Frame Rate Requirement — This is a lighter alternative suggested in the comments. Instead of fully disabling MPO, it sets OverlayMinFPS to 0, which stops Windows from dynamically switching apps between overlay modes based on frame rate. Great for fixing stuttering in apps like browsers and Discord without losing MPO benefits entirely.

This has been merged into the development branch and will be available for testing in Release 24.
