Seems like this traceback is coming from Python's shlex while gitmeup parses the shell commands returned by the model, not from shlex.py itself. So, gitmeup is supposed to work with POSIX-safe command output and I set it to explicitly instructs the model to return properly quoted git add / git commit commands, so an error like No closing quotation usually means the generated command block was malformed, think an unmatched quote in a path or commit message.

At the moment there is not enough information in the report to reproduce it. Could you please share:

• the exact gitmeup version from gitmeup -v
• the model you were using, if overridden
• the raw command block that gitmeup printed before failing
• whether the affected files or commit message contained quotes, apostrophes, brackets, unicode, or spaces

If there is no follow-up with reproducible details, I’ll close this as not actionable. My current suspicion is that the model returned an incomplete or incorrectly quoted shell command rather than a bug in Python itself. Some LLMs also tend to hallucinate shell-safe quoting or produce non-POSIX-friendly paths, which would fit this traceback! 😄

the problem was that gemini created commits and didnt close some of the commit messages that generated the error i guess it is just a mater of validating the LLM response and structure
