Switching from Django

I was trying to setup Leaf with React, I followed the docs, but I just seem to end up with a broken setup. I have a lot of experience using Django with React. Leaf sounds really good and I need to learn some PHP, so would be nice to understand why it's not working.
I used the MVC option, setup start files, tests, React, no docker. I'm using Windows. I've tried like four times, running the setup in different ways tbh, but no luck.
I'm not expecting anyone to help me, but I do think there's a bit of a gap in the docs regarding the complications of starting a new leaf project with a react frontend. A step that's glossed over perhaps, so really just a vent, thanks.

I switched to the Laravel React setup. Had it working perfectly in 90mins, vs 4 hours to get no where lol.
