Markdown styling shows on homepage

The text that shows up is this:

That text doesn't show up on the article but it shows up in the description meta tag, so I'm guessing it's the description that's doing it:

I'm not sure whether this would catch issues like that, but running a markdown linter like rumdl to validate the markdown might help catch future issues like this.

It looks like @Yhg1s was attempting to fix this as I opened the issue.

It's still an issue, though a bit different now:

It looks like the description neither strips markdown nor formats it properly.
