Plugin does not work with VS 2022 CMake projects

Unfortunetely, this plugin does not work with CMake projects in VS 2022. There are no context menus. It is as if this plugin is not installed.

Why is that? I guess it should be easy to fix.

Hi @maxpla3 , I did a very quick google search and CMake seems to be a new project type installed via a Visual Studio extension? I'm sorry, I don't have any details on that. Do you want to look into a contribution for this?

CMake is supported since VS 2017. In VS it is a project type distinct from the native "Visual Studio Solution".
CMake is the leading standard in the linux world and in cross-platform projects.

I would like to contribute, however, I've never developed a plugin for VS so far. The fix might be as simple as adding context menus to CMake style projects.

It doesn't look like there's an obvious spot for CMake. We didn't whitelist these things so it's possible that the project type is special and needs extra stuff to work. I'm sorry, I don't think that I can do more than point you at the right direction to get started. The best thing would propbably be to take a sample how to build an extension that also does menu items, and check that out first or try to debug LicenseHeaderManager and see if it veers off somewhere.

Update:

Line 70 in LicenseHeaderPackage.cs:
[ProvideAutoLoad (VSConstants.UICONTEXT.SolutionOpening_string, PackageAutoLoadFlags.BackgroundLoad)]
This causes the package to be loaded during the opening of a solution. Since a CMake VS project is not a VS solution, I think that opening a CMake project simply does not trigger the loading of the plugin.

I changed the line to:
[ProvideAutoLoad(VSConstants.UICONTEXT.NoSolution_string, PackageAutoLoadFlags.BackgroundLoad)]

The plugin now still works with a VS solution as intended but now, with a CMake project, I'm getting a generic error when openin the project. At least something is being loaded now.

How can I debug the plugin? If I try to debug it I get the following message:
