screenEdgeGapTopNotch doesn't appear to work

By default on my mac I hide the menubar and have sketchybar live at the top of my screen. When I first started using rectangle, this presented an issue as the maximize window function would take up the entire screen when the menubar was hidden, thereby covering up sketchybar. This was an easy fix once I discovered the screenEdgeGap hidden setting. I added a 30px gap to the top and things worked fine when I plug into my external monitor at my desk.

The problem that I'm having is that on my built-in laptop display, macos seems to protect the notch area even when the menubar is hidden, so it will add 30px below the notch, even when the menubar is hidden. I looked at the docs and it seems like screenEdgeGapTopNotch should be the fix for this, but I've already set screenEdgeGapTopNotch to 0 and I still see the same behaviour. I have also tried setting screenEdgeGapsOnMainScreenOnly to true/false and still get the same behaviour.

Did you try setting screenEdgeGapTopNotch to -30 to negate the 30px gap set by screenEdgeGap? Or is that not what you're looking for?

Setting screenEdgeGapTopNotch to -30 sort of worked, but it eliminated all the gap at the top/bottom of the screen.

Fiddling around with it further, it seems setting it to -1 or 1 gets me the desired behaviour, i.e. removing the extra 30px at the top while maintaining the correct edge gap on the top & bottom (I guess technically the top gap is off by 1px, but it's good enough for me).

It seems like when screenEdgeGapTopNotch is set to 0 it just ignores the setting altogether, thus it needs to be set at something other than 0 to work

You can set screenEdgeGapTopNotch to something like -0.00001 (which will round to zero) and this should get what you're looking for.

defaults write com.knollsoft.Rectangle screenEdgeGapTopNotch -float -0.00001

Then restart Rectangle.

I'll see about making this a configuration that's more intuitive.
