Logo Proposal for OpenCLI

Hi there! 👋

I’ve created a logo proposal for the OpenCLI project, inspired by the spirit and purpose of the specification. While the design is minimal in terms of graphical complexity, I’ve focused on subtle symbolism embedded in the name itself:

• Compass 🧭 — representing OpenCLI as a standard and guiding reference for CLI tools

• Torch 🔥 — symbolizing the project as a seed of civilization, illuminating best practices for CLI interfaces

This logo is completely free to use and can be included under the project’s license.

If it’s a good fit, I’d be happy to provide the SVG source file for integration or future edits.

Feedback and suggestions are very welcome — I’d love to refine it further if needed.

And of course, if the logo doesn’t align with the project’s direction, that’s totally okay too. Please feel no pressure to use it, I simply enjoyed the creative challenge and appreciate the opportunity to contribute!

Perhaps having only the O with the compass in it, would make for a good compact version of logo?

One question, though, is it drawn by you or generated by some kind of genAI?

Thanks so much for the kind words — and your suggestion is great! I’ll try creating a few new variations soon so we can explore and refine things further. Stay tuned 😊

And yes, the logo is hand-drawn by me. I haven’t found any genAI tools that are truly suited for logo design yet — it often requires a high level of distillation and insight, a way of connecting visual form with semantic meaning from a specific perspective.

With your suggestion, I explored a few new directions — and ended up with six logo concepts, all closely tied to the compass theme.

• Option A keeps the original CLI frame shape.
• Option B focuses more on the letter “O”.
• Option C might look a bit complex at first glance, but the color treatment makes it stand out.
• Option D is a more conservative version.
• Option E combines the letters “O” and “C”, though it slightly resembles the double-C logo used by Channel.
• Option F has a retro feel, with a lighter overall texture.

Personally, I’m leaning toward B and C, especially C — it looks quite striking in dark mode.
