<p align="justify">
Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology is one among the 14 premier Technical Institutions in
Karnataka State, selected by the World Bank, for the award of financial assistance. This assistance
will be utilized to improve quality of education, to modernize the laboratory facilities and to make
this institution a Center of Excellence. Under this scheme, initiative on a large scale have already been
initiated for providing a congenial ambience for learning.<br>
<p align="justify">
In this direction, TEQIP will address the following major issues:<br><br>
<ul>
<li><b>Modernisation of laboratories/workshops.</b></li>
<li><b>Faculty and staff development:</b> qualification enhancement of teachers, exposure to industry practices and processes.</li>
<li><b>Curricula improvements:</b> periodically updating and improving of curricula, making them competency- based, more emphasis on
problem-solving, self learning, cerative and innovative thinking, etc.</li>
<li><b>Course flexibility:</b> multipoint enter of students credit acquisition and provision of learning options, etc.</li>
<li><b>Interaction with industries:</b> continuing education programmers for industry personnel, problem-solving projects and consultancies on
industrial problems, participation of industries in curriculum design, industrial experts for instructional training, etc.</li>
<LI><B>Research:</B> develop culture for research and undertaking consultancy assignments in institutions.
<LI><B>Development of management capacity:</B> improvement in quality and efficiency of institution
management, development of processes for self-renewal, development
of senior faculty in management of resources, etc.

<B>TEQIP Highlights:</B>
<UL>
<LI><B>Centers of Excellence:</B>
In view of the large number of Institution and
the constraints on human, physical and financial resources; 17 to
20 well-performing institutions will be selected as Lead
Institutions for achievement of the quality enhancement objectives
and to diffuse benefits of their excellence throughout the system
by developing synergistic networks between them and 50 to 60
neighboring Network Institutions. Some examples of sharing
expertise and resources through networking are; Academic Sharing,
Credit Transfer and Carry-over of Credits, Staff Development,
Human Resources, Learning Resources and Library and Managerial
Expertise, Joint Ventures, etc.
<LI><B>Bottom- up Approach:</B>
The Project is designed in Programme Mode with full freedom to
institutions to prepare their own proposals.
<LI><B>Merit-based Selection:</B>
Only the well-conceived proposals (as decided by a National
Selection Committee) will be supported through the
Project.
<LI><B>Upgrading Existing Institutions:</B> No new institutes are proposed to be set up
under the Project. Only existing well-performing institutions
meeting the pre-announced eligibility criteria would be able to
participate.
<LI><B>To be implemented in phases as a centrally coordinated multi-state</B>, long-term
programme in overlapping phasea. Under each phase, there will be 2
to 3 cycles of selection of well performing
institutions.

</ul>
<P><B>Institutions selected under TEQIP are expected to:</B>
<UL>
<LI>Improve their level of performance and produce high quality professionals.
<LI>Improve their internal efficiency.
<LI>Better utilize their capacity through enhanced enrolment and better management and networking.
<LI>Enhance institutional capacity.
<LI>Improve system planning and management.
<LI>Enhance revenues, and
<LI>Contribute to technological growth and knowledge.</LI></UL>
<B>Services to Informal Sector and Community:</B>
<p align="justify">
Technical Education system has so far been fulfilling the role of producing technical manpower for
the organized industrial sector. Informal sector of the economy
employs large majority of the work force and produces substantial
portion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Productivity of work
force in the informal sector is currently low. For a balanced
development of the country, quality of manpower for all sectors,
organized as well as unorganized, needs to be improved by the
technical education system. TEQIP is designed to address the needs
of informal sector also.<br><br>
