Playlists

Currently, each device has a separate playlist (the list of apps to cycle through).
This could be moved from the device to a standalone playlist concept which would enable

• sharing of playlists across devices (so that all devices display the same apps)
• different playlists by time of day (the night app could be replaced by a "night playlist")

The "next" endpoint would need to be rethought so that multiple devices don't compete for the next image.

I've also been thinking about this idea

Rather than just having a list of every installed app and cycling through them, you would be able to build playlists and then stack up the playlists in an order.

My thought is that playlists could have a few modes. It could have play all sequentially, play one per rotation sequentially, and play one random per rotation.

So some example use cases are that you could group all your sports apps together and show a different team each time around the cycle. You could put all your clock apps in one playlist and choose a random one each time.

It would be kind of a fundamental shift and how you manage the apps but it could also be a fun power user feature. You could mix and match playlists and apps in rotations. So an example rotation might be:

Transit app
Air quality app
[Play one, sequentially: NFL scores, NCAAF scores, hockey scores, baseball scores]
Weather app
[Play one, randomly: sonic clock, nes clock, tetris clock, big clock]
