Getting Started

This page gets you from zero to a safe first edit.

Before You Begin

  • Make a backup copy of any archive before editing.
  • Keep archives on local disk (not network share) if possible.
  • Use short, simple file paths when possible.

First Run Checklist

  1. Launch ERFEdit.
  2. Open an existing archive.
  3. Confirm the resource list appears.
  4. Add a small test file.
  5. Save the archive.
  6. Re-open the archive to confirm changes are present.

Daily Workflow (Safe Version)

  1. Copy archive to a working file.
  2. Edit only the working copy.
  3. Save and close.
  4. Re-open and verify.
  5. Replace original only after verification.

How To Know You Have Unsaved Changes

  • Added resources show * in the list.
  • Window title/status usually indicates dirty state.

If you close without saving, staged additions are not committed to the archive.
