this PR consolidates a bunch of repetitive redirects with wildcards.
commits are descriptive. the easiest way to review is to go commit by commit, rather than look at the whole diff.
2b5831b alphabetizes our existing redirects (using a tiny python script). each following commit's diffs are then readable because related groups of source urls are sequential.
