The Game Success Formula

# Success = Execution * MarketFit * Appeal
success = (core * polish) * (genre * trend) * (art * social)

1. Execution (core * polish)

2. Market Fit (genre * trend)

  • Genre
    • the "audience ceiling." Statistically, 3D games have the highest reach.
  • Trend
    • Port successful formulas from User-Generated Content (Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite) to Steam.
    • Combine proven media and concepts (e.g., Breaking Bad / Schedule I)
    • Replicate new trends fast before they are saturated

3. Appeal (art * social)

  • Art
    • just like the woman in the red dress, art gets your attention and stops the scroll.
  • Social
    • Co-op Local: The most attainable for beginners, though not applicable to all genres.
    • Online: The biggest success multiplier, but the highest difficulty (adds 2x development time or more).
