One question on this: the original svg (attached to this comment) is above the 500kb threshold so the PR omits the bitmap component. Any suggestions on shrinking the this? I trike to 'trace the bitmap' and compress it in Inkscape but neither approach worked. The .svg file is only a few kb over 500 kb. Could I include the original svg in this PR?

I will defer to @maxogden on the size question. I am personally not a huge fan of raster graphics in vector images, but whatever. If you are really intent on having the raster background though, could you not just scale the vector version down a bit? Also, I mean, this is showing up as what 700-ish-by-600-ish — this image should really be quite a bit smaller than that, particularly given its quality. I see that it's embedded as a PNG. Have you tried just saving the image as e.g. a middling-quality JPEG instead? Really that should be like a ~100, ~200k image.

Yes I mean I was looking at the embedded PNG in the SVG. It seems like it can at the very least be downsampled. Or, again, converted to JPEG and masked.
