I can confirm it fixes my test in allwpilib land. I think I'd prefer it to land over there. Syncing the other direction is going to be blocked by wpilibsuite/allwpilib#8873 |

@pjreiniger this fixes the problem you ran into
Adding the npy_format_descriptor to the base unit type caster increased compilation time a ton, so I'm not going to do that there.
